Puppy Timeline

Applications open when puppies reach 6 weeks of age. Puppies generally go home at approximately 10 weeks, once key developmental and medical milestones are met.

Resident Dogs

If you have a dog in your home, a dog-to-dog meet-and-greet is required before the adoption can be finalized to ensure a safe, happy match for everyone.

Out-of-State
Adoptions

You do not have to live in North Carolina to adopt! We welcome out-of-state adopters, and transportation assistance may be available for a fee.

Veterinary Records

We verify pet care history as part of our review process. Please contact your veterinary office before applying to authorize them to release records to Blazin' Trails Bottle Babies.

We'll speak with you about your household, daily routine, experience, expectations, and answer any questions you have about the puppy.

You Meet the
Puppy

You'll meet your potential puppy in person! If you have a resident dog, this step includes a required dog-to-dog introduction.

You Finalize the Adoption

Sign the adoption contract, pay the adoption fee, collect medical records and foster transition notes, and take your new family member home!

Their Care Started Long Before Adoption

Most BTBB puppies arrive as orphaned newborns requiring warmth, frequent feedings, close medical monitoring, and hands-on care around the clock. As they grow, they transition into foster homes where they experience household routines, age-appropriate socialization, and the foundations of crate and potty training.

Before adoption, you'll receive honest information from the foster who knows your puppy best—what has been observed, what the puppy is still learning, and what support may be needed after adoption.

Our responsibility doesn't end when a puppy goes home. BTBB remains available to offer guidance and support as your puppy adjusts and grows.

What Your Adoption Includes

We invest deeply in every single life brought through our doors. Every BTBB adoption provides a complete medical and developmental foundation:

Age-appropriate core vaccinations & routine deworming

Comprehensive medical history & complete vaccination records

Lifetime post-adoption support from the BTBB team

Registered microchip via Fi Nano GPS (Includes 6 months of complimentary GPS tracking)

Personalized transition notes directly from your puppy's foster parent

Adoption Fee: $450

The average cost of caring for each BTBB puppy is approximately $950. The $450 adoption fee covers less than half of that expense, with donations and fundraising bridging the gap. This support provides each puppy with the care they need while helping us remain ready for the next orphaned newborn.

- Complete in One Sitting: The application form does not save progress. Please gather all details (vet contact info, ID, reference phone numbers) before starting. Be sure to receive a confirmation email after submitting.

- Authorize Your Vet: Contact your vet's office to grant permission to release records to BTBB. Unreleased records are the #1 cause of processing delays!

- Check Your Info: All required fields must be answered completely so our volunteer team can process your application without delay.

- Understand that our volunteers will process your application and this can take about seven business days to complete.

- An approved application does not guarantee a specific puppy. Matches are based on the puppy's needs for best fit home.

All current household pets must:

- Be up to date on core vaccinations, including DHPP and rabies.
- Be current on year-round heartworm prevention with no lapses in coverage
- Be current on flea and tick prevention
- Be spayed or neutered
- Receive regular veterinary care

We contact your veterinary office to verify these records. If your pets have received care from more than one practice during the past five years, please provide information for each practice. If you purchase preventatives online, be prepared to provide your most recent receipt or other proof of continuous coverage.

Renters are welcome to apply, but you must have permission to keep a dog in your home. Review any landlord, property-management, or HOA rules—including breed, size, and weight restrictions—before applying. BTBB may contact the appropriate person or office to verify this information.

A fenced yard is not required, and living in an apartment does not prevent you from adopting. The application will ask how you plan to provide safe potty breaks, exercise, training, and supervision.

All adults responsible for the puppy should know about and support the adoption.

Adopting a puppy is a commitment that may last 15 years or longer. Puppies need patience, supervision, continued socialization, veterinary care, and consistent positive-reinforcement training. By adopting from BTBB, you agree to:

- Schedule a veterinary wellness examination within seven days of adoption
- Maintain routine veterinary care, vaccinations, testing, and year-round heartworm, flea, and tick prevention
- Keep your dog primarily indoors as a family companion
- Never leave your dog outdoors unattended or overnight
- Never tether or chain your dog
- Complete a basic obedience or puppy-training course consisting of six consecutive weeks within four months of adoption
- Cooperate with BTBB's post-adoption check-ins and reasonable requests for veterinary or training records
- Contact BTBB before rehoming, transferring, or surrendering your dog

If your puppy has not been spayed or neutered before adoption, the procedure must be scheduled during the initial veterinary visit for approximately six months of age or the first available appointment recommended by your veterinarian. BTBB requires proof that the procedure was scheduled and completed.

If you are ever unable to keep your adopted dog, contact BTBB first. A BTBB dog may not be privately rehomed or surrendered to another rescue or shelter without prior written approval.

Adoption fees are nonrefundable.
